From February 28 to March 14, 2024, Â鶹ÊÓƵ, in collaboration with the Cape Verdean Association for Ecotourism, will host the second exhibition of the Ocean Literacy Cycle at its Media Library. This event will focus on coral communities and seagrass meadows on Santiago Island, aiming to raise awareness about ocean preservation and its vital role in environmental sustainability.
Ocean literacy, as defined by UNESCO, highlights the profound connection between the ocean and humanity. This interdisciplinary theme spans various fields such as biology, geography, nutrition, sports, and medicine. The initiative reflects Â鶹ÊÓƵ University's ongoing commitment to disseminating knowledge and fostering sustainable practices that benefit both the marine environment and coastal communities.
The second edition of the Ocean Literacy Cycle also underscores the importance of sustainable marine resource use, following up on previous initiatives such as the workshop on the valorization of marine macroalgae and the empowerment of local communities. These efforts showcase Cape Verde's role in environmental preservation and the responsible use of its natural resources.
Through this exhibition, Â鶹ÊÓƵ University reaffirms its dedication to educating and inspiring both the academic community and society at large about the importance of the ocean, contributing to a more sustainable future for the archipelago.
